T. JACK MAYER, PhD

T. Jack Mayer has extensive experience in the formulation, manufacture, specification, use and application, and performance of petroleum based and synthetic fuels and lubricants, in a wide variety of industrial, transportation, and other applications.

As a research Chemist, Jack conducted and directed independent research to identify individual hydrocarbon components of refinery streams. This research involved Prep Scale and Capillary Chromatography, Mass Spectrum, Infrared, Ultraviolet, and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectrography. Results were incorporated into American Petroleum Institute (API) research projects, and have been the subject of a number of publications. As a group leader in analytical services, he pioneered the use of Capillary Gas Chromatography to analyze gasoline component streams which allowed the development of mathematical models for Refinery Processes.

As Manager, Technical Services for Fuels and Lubricants:

 :

  • Specified optimum additive packages and other improvements for gasolines

  • Provided technical and marketing support for specialty oils including those for refrigeration, electrical, and agricultural applications, and white oils for domestic uses including foodstuffs.

Jack is a graduate of the university of South Dakota, and holds a B.A. in chemistry. He received his M. S. in Petroleum Chemistry from the Pennsylvania State University, and was awarded the degree of Ph. D. in Physical Chemistry by Carnegie Mellon University. Jack holds in addition an MBA in Marketing from Widener University. He is an active member of the American Chemical Society (ACS) and the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). Jack was the first (National) Program Secretary for the ACS Petroleum Division, a position he held for six years. In addition, he is a past chairman of the Philadelphia Section of SAE.
