THOMAS J. DUGDALE

Thomas J. Dugdale has international experience in project management, licensing, engineering design, plant engineering and troubleshooting in the refining, petrochemical, and specialty chemical industries, in the UK, Spain, Brazil, Taiwan, Australia and the U.S. He has successfully held complete project responsibilities. In business development he has created and started specialty chemical and medical product businesses with large and small companies. Selected projects:

  • Refinery Crude Unit Energy Reduction   Utilized HYSIM simulation of existing refinery crude unit heat exchanger train to evaluate proposals for process changes to reduce energy use.

  • Refinery Field Services    Worked onsite to determine design basis and location of piping tie-ins for new processing unit.

  • Butane isomerization   Managed the subcontractor for the design, procurement, and construction of a C4 isomerization plant.

  • Ethylene Cracker and off-sites   Process engineering for an ethylene cracker, followed by designing major equipment, preparing equipment specifications, selecting equipment vendors in Spanish engineering subcontractor's office.

  • Town design   Organized the construction of a 600-unit housing development for a coal mining town in Australia. Negotiated with the town council, the miners' union, government agencies, and farmers to establish the town location, layout, and the infrastructure needed to support the town and coal mine. Prepared bid packages, selected the contractor and negotiated the contract. The development was built.

  • Beta phenyl ethanol (Rose Fragrance)   Scoped the entire project, negotiated a Japanese azeotropic distillation process license, completed the technology transfer, prepared bid documents for engineering, procurement, and construction, selected the EPC contractor, managed the process design, engineering, procurement and construction. Project was completed ahead of schedule and under budget.

  • Propylene Oxide, Styrene, Ethyl benzene   Supervised 25-man plant engineering group responsible for the design and construction of all capital additions in the chemical complex.

  • Ethylene oxide, glycol, amines and ethers   Led the contractor start-up team that optimized each unit's operation and successfully ran the guarantee test runs in Brazil.

  • Wound care products   Set up a world-wide distributor network to export the company's products and built up the international sales from zero to 30% of revenues.

Tom holds a B.Sc. degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Concepcion, Chile. He has excellent computer skills in business analysis, database management and the Internet and is bilingual in English/Spanish.
