JOHN L. WORTH, PE

Jack Worth has extensive experience in project, process, and mechanical design in a variety of refining and petrochemical processes, as well as utility systems, shipping and receiving facilities, tankage, waste handling, cogeneration, and energy conservation. He is well versed in industry codes, standards, and design and construction practices. His project management skills include interface with client, definition of scopes, development and control of budgets and schedules, direction of the project team, coordination with procurement, negotiation of contracts, and direct support of construction. Selected areas of expertise:

Chairman of Corporate Fired Heater Committee

  • Responsible for developing, implementing, and reviewing maintenance, construction, and operating standards and procedures for all fired heaters and boilers in the company's seven refineries
  • Project manager responsible for design, procurement, and construction of new crude and vacuum heaters, redesign and modification of existing fired heaters, high-temperature incoloy outlet headers for hydrogen reformer furnace

Boiler Replacement

  • Developed bid inquiry package, including technical specifications for # 2 fuel oil fired boiler for East Coast pipeline company including vendor bid review and recommendation

Fired Heater OPerformance Inspections

  • Heater “tuning’ inspection of many fired heaters located in a large East Coast refinery including detailed written recommendations for improvements to achieve better operating efficiency

Contractor Evaluation and Selection

  • Developed project scopes, bid request packages, and reviewed bid responses for selection of E&C Contractors to design and construct a broad array of major capital projects for many clients.

Flare System Design & Project Management

  • Served on the Relief System Standards Committee of a major oil company
  • Responsible for the design and implementation of a complex flare system on a high-pressure Hydrocracker in which relief rates from 20 sources were evaluated for a variety of scenarios to assure safe and reliable design and operation.
  • Design and fabrication drawings for a replacement knock out drum for flare system service in a Canadian refinery


Jack holds a BS in Chemical Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology. He has graduate Engineering credits from the University of Delaware. He is a registered Professional Engineer in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
