Arve B. Holt is a senior chemical engineer with an extensive background in refinery operations and engineering. Areas of expertise include refinery and petrochemical operations, energy conservation, project management, process control systems, process safety, work system redesign, and process reliability.


Process Engineer

 
  • Tech service engineer in Sunoco Marcus Hook, PA refinery for 4 years.
  • Control engineer designing, procuring and commissioning instrumentation systems for Sunoco Tulsa and Puerto Rico refineries for 7 years.
Refinery Operations and Project    Responsible for daily operations of 85,000 bbl/day lubes/fuels refinery.

 
  • Produced operating reliability improvements through engineering changes/capital projects good operator attention. Facilities involved included FCCU, C4 Isomerization unit, Catalytic Reformers, HF Alkylation, Delayed Coking, Lube Oil Dewaxing, and Transfer and Shipping.
  • Improved worker safety attitude and awareness resulting in a decrease in OSHA incident rate from 8.6 to 2.2
  • Project manager for $6 MM project to convert refinery from fuels to lubes only operation. Met all state and federal environmental and safety requirements.
Energy Conservation/Process Safety

 
  • Implemented OSHA 1910.119 PSM regulations for Sunoco, Inc. refineries.
  • Responsible for coordinating energy conservation projects/work and standardized reporting of energy conservation results for Sunoco, Inc. refineries.
Recent Project Examples

 
  • Field work for pipeline company that included pressure measurements and hydraulic modeling of dock side unloading piping network. Identified ways to speed up crude unloading to reduce demurrage fees.
  • Field work for chemical company resulting in control improvements that will minimize future vapor releases at a pressure relief disk.
  • Expert third party inspection and certification of various field operations for a very large underground storage facility located on the East Coast of the USA.


Mr. Holt holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Lehigh University and M.S. in Chemical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University. He is a registered professional engineer in Pennsylvania and California.
